Thank you for your interest in becoming a mentor for the Grow Your Own Teacher Pathway (GYOTP) program and for taking the time to complete our application. Before you begin, please carefully read the following instructions to ensure a smooth and successful application process:
Mentor Eligibility
- Be a current teacher with a Clear credential and a classroom
- Teaching PK-12 grade level
- Be part of one of the named partner school districts that Rio Hondo, Cerritos, and West LA community colleges are working with on the GYOTP project
- Inviting/prioritizing teachers who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and other unrepresented groups including first-generation and low-income college graduates and community college alumni.
Note: Not all mentors who apply will be matched with a student. Once you apply, you will be added to a mentor pool and matched based on the goals of our students and the needs of the program's school district partners.

Expectations
- Mentoring max 2 community college students on the teaching pathway
- Minimum of 1 year commitment
- Program orientation at the beginning
- Host meetings and/or classroom visitations with mentee
- Provide feedback on mentee's monthly mentorship form
- Approximately 1 meeting with project staff per month (but additional meetings can be scheduled as needed)
- Participate in one asynchronous online mentor training
- Communicate with project staff as needed to complete duties
